[Class 112] In an overedge stitching machine of the scale pan type, the needle-bar 23 is reciprocated by mechanism within a closed oil chamber 7, comprising a lever the boss of which is shown at 38, a pitman 42 and a crank 43 on the main shaft 8. The needle-thread is engaged by a thread-carrying looper 44 carried by an arm on a horizontal shaft 49 which is oscillated by means of a balljointed pitman 53 connected to a block 54 on the needle-bar. The looper thread loop is spread by a looper 58 carried by an arm 59 on a shaft 61 inclined to the horizontal and actuated by a pitman 65 from the main shaft. The pitman passes through a flexible oil seal 68. A threaded looper may be used in place of the unthreaded looper 58. The stitches are formed about a conical finger 81 to prevent distortion of the fabric edges. The finger 81 and a needle-thread loop positioning fin 85 are carried by a bracket 88 disposed within the inner feed cup 4.
