Abstract
644,778. Gramophone cabinets. COPPOCK, Ltd., J. T., and COPPOCK, R. T. Feb. 26, 1947, No. 5624. [Class 40 (ii)] [Also in Group XIV] A cabinet having a shelf slidable from an opening and a hinged cover to close the opening when the shelf is in its innermost position, has a lever fixed to the hinged cover engaging a slot in the shelf, or an attachment to the shelf, so that angular movement of the cover causes sliding movement of the shelf. A cabinet 6, Fig. 2, upon which a radio receiver may stand, houses a turntable and pick-up unit 10a mounted on a shelf 11 which is drawn out between guides 12 to an accessible position when a front cover 7 is opened, Fig. 3, by a lever 17 mounted on the front cover, co-operating with a slotted plate 13 projecting from the front of the shelf. Lever 17 is shaped to maintain a substantially constant angle with the shelf during opening and the edges of the slot may be sloped correspondingly. Alternatively to avoid sloped edges the slot may be formed with one edge lower than the other by pressing as in Fig. 5. Trapezium-shaped pieces 19 attached to each end of the shelf conceal the motor and give the cabinet a solid appearance when open. For greater accessibility the front portion of the top of the cabinet may form a hinged flap linked to the shelf to open to an adjustable position when the shelf moves out.
