Abstract
644,686. Washing gases. DIRECTIE VAN DE STAATSMIJNEN IN LIMBURG. June 22, 1948, No. 16741. Convention date, June 23, 1947. [Class 55(ii)] A dust collector in the ventilating channel of a mine shaft comprises two series 2, 3, of curved vanes arranged at positions in which the channel makes a right-angle bend, the first series being wetted by sprinklers lined up in front. In another arrangement for a straight passage two series of vanes are inclined backwardly to the passage walls from a central position the second series being placed close behind the first. The gases make a right-angle turn in both series, emerging from the second in the direction of the passage. Several series may be provided at least the last of which is not wetted. The vanes may be hollow members of chrome cast iron with their adjacent surfaces being parts of concentric cylinders. The vanes of each series may be so curved as to subject the gas to a change of direction through at least 75 degrees up to 90 degrees.
