Abstract

644,578. Hinges. MURRAY, A. E. Dec. 6, 1946, No. 36184. Convention date, Aug. 12. [Class 65(ii)] [Also in Group XV] A roller skate comprises a foot support and front and rear pairs of rollers, the axles of which are resiliently connected to the foot support by the aid of elastic cords. Rotary shifting of the axles with respect to the foot support is thus possible and the axles are self-aligning, so that the impedance to the momentum of the wearer of the skates due to unevennesses in the floor is substantially eliminated. In Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 5, the skate has a foot support 2 to the bottom of which is attached block 7. Rod 13 with screw-threaded ends 14 extends longitudinally through block 7, and housings 19 and 20 of axles 21 and 22 are secured above rod 13 by wrappings of elastic cord. Attached to housings 19 and 20 are hooks 29 and 31, while attached to the foot support 2 are corresponding hooks 35. Each of hooks 29 and 31 are secured in juxtaposition with the corresponding hooks 35 by wrappings of elastic cord. Instead of hooks 35, there may be employed double hooks 44 shown in Fig. 7, hooks 50 shown in Fig. 15, or plates 129 having two depending arms 130 and 131 provided with holes in their ends through which passes a cylindrical rod 132 as shown in Fig. 17. Rod 13, instead of being carried by block 7, may be carried by two cylindrical standards 67 and 68 as in Fig. 8. Instead of a unitary rod 13, two rods 79 and 80 may be provided, as in Figs 9 and 10. In this case rods 79 and 80 are provided with hooks 81 and 82 secured together with elastic cord, while standards 67 and 68 are also provided with hooks 79a and 80a secured together with elastic cord. Furthermore foot support 2 is replaced by a support made in two parts 85 and 86, the two parts being separated by rubber or neoprene blocks 87 and 88 but secured in juxtaposition by elastic cord. In Fig. 11, the foot support is a single piece 92 of laminated wood or laminated fabric and rubber or neoprene. In Figs. 12 and 13, the foot support is in two parts 106 and 107 carrying blocks 102 and 103 and two rods 100 and 101 are provided. Blocks 102 and 103 are secured in juxtaposition by means of hooks 120, 121, 122, 123, 126 and 127 and elastic cord, and are recessed to receive elastic balls 118 and 119.
