Abstract

644,086. Valve oscillator circuits. AUTOMATIC TELEPHONE & ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Dec. 6, 1947, No. 32261. [Class 40 (vi)] A saw-tooth generator of the Miller-transition type has its frequency stabilized and can be switched to produce a sinusoidal output by the connection of a piezo-electric crystal across the Miller feed-back capacitor. The Figure shows an oscillator in which the Miller feed-back capacitor C1 is shunted by a crystal X which has a resonant frequency which is harmonically related to the repetition frequency of the sawtooth generator which is adjustable by varying capacitor C1. During the forward stroke of the sawtooth the anode voltage falls linearly in the normal manner and the crystal produces H.F. sinusoidal oscillations which are superimposed upon the saw-tooth waveform and which determine the exact point at which the fly-back stroke commences. Due to the high Q of the crystal the H.F. oscillations continue during the short fly-back period, the duration of which is determined by the time constant of the network C2, R5. The positive feed-back produced by capacitor improves the performance of the stage as a sinusoidal oscillator. In the position shown of the switch S1 a saw-tooth waveform is derived from terminal 1, the network L1, C5 filtering out the sinusoidal voltage. In the lower position of the switch, a sinusoidal waveform is derived from the terminal 2 and the saw-tooth voltage is removed by network L2, C6.
