Abstract

643,989. Aerials. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. Nov. 18, 1946, No. 34121. Convention date, June 21, 1943. Drawings to Specification. [Class 40 (vii)] In a wide-band array of parallel cylindrical or bi-conical dipoles, the spacing, phase of energization and factor of slenderness, i.e. the length/thickness ratio, are adjusted so that the reactive components Xm and X of the mutual- and self-impedance cancel one another at the input terminals of each dipole at frequencies in the neighbourhood of resonance. For a pair of dipoles energized in phase the required spacing is 0.135# and for out-of-phase energization the spacing is 0.68#, and for an array of n dipoles located at the angular points of a regular polygon the spacing is either 0.135# for n=3 or slightly less than 0.135# for n>3. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, the embodiment comprising a pair of aerials energized in out-ofphase relationship may be replaced by a single dipole spaced from a plane reflector. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
