Abstract

Water is softened and freed from excess carbon dioxide by passing it through a filter body comprising a mixture of a cation-exchange material such as a zeolite compound and a compound of a metal, e.g. of the second group of the periodic system having affinity for carbon dioxide. The compound may be calcium carbonate (e.g. as marble), magnesite, or burned magnesite. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the use of burned calcium carbonate. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
