Abstract

In the absorption of carbon monoxide in cuprous salt solution, precipitation of solid particles is prevented by the presence therein of a protective colloid, e.g. starch, dextrin or gum. Recovery of carbon monoxide is effected by subjecting the solution to heat and/or reduced pressure. Cuprous chloride or cuprammonium solutions containing two or more metallic chlorides or ammonium chloride or one or more metallic formates, carbonates, acetates or lactates are employed.
