Abstract

643,203. Suction filters. RICHTER, J. C. F. C. Dec. 11, 1945, No. 33522. [Class 46] A suction filter for extracting fibres in the form of a web of ma terial from a pulp mixture comprises a tank 1 in which rotates a partially immersed drurr comprising drum heads 4, 9, and a perforated sieve shell 3 on which the web is deposited and from whicl it is removed. e.g by a discharge roll 19, Fig. 3 that part of the shell lying in the removal zone be ing cut off from suction by engage ment with a sta tionary shield 18. The head 9 is provided with a central opening 29 mounted over a fixed cylindrical flange 10 projecting from the adjacent wall of the tank, the. joint being sealed by a stuffing box 11. The shield 18 is secured to the part of the flange 10 inside the drum by an arm 17. The flange 10 is closed by a wall 12 provided with a stuffing box 13 for the drum shaft 5 and an aperture 14 connected to suction for withdrawal of water. The web may be washed by sprays 26, 27, the washing water being discharged by hoppers 20, 21 to pipes 24, 25. In a modification the shell is carried on a drum frame having a series of longitudinal compartments around its circumference each provided with a water outlet hole at one end. A number of these holes are closed by the stationary shield at the web-removing zone.
