Abstract
642,966. Luminescent materials. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. Nov. 28, 1947, No. 31528. Convention date, Aug. 21, 1946. Drawings to Specification. [Class 39 (i)] Manganese activated silicate phosphors are made by preheating the mixed raw materials at from 710‹ to 950‹ C. to form the silicate and thereafter heating finally at a temperature of about 1200‹ C. to cause crystallization and improve fluorescence. In one example, zinc oxide, beryllium oxide, silicic acid and manganous carbonate are mixed and heated at 800 ‹ C. for one hour, being then raised to normal firing temperature of 1200‹ C. for one hour, producing a very white phosphor. Other metal radicles may be included in the zincberyllium silicate phosphor, e.g. magnesium, cadmium, calcium, strontium, barium, zirconium, aluminium and combinations thereof. The treatment also improves zinc silicate.
