Abstract

642,872. Making tubes. ROSEN, E. R. Sept. 20, 1948, No. 24625. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Angular bending; coiling; seaming.-In a machine for continuously forming helical lock seam pipes pivoted means 10 operated by cams 13 intermittently bend the edges of a strip 15 to a L section and a shallow U section respectively and rolls 17 deepens the U section edge. The strip is fed under a guide plate 22 to a mandrel 1 rotated by a gear 5 and supported by bearings 4, 30, the latter being rotated by a gear. Rollers 26, 27 clamp the helical seam.
