Abstract
A method of producing metal powders from copper and iron containing ores is characterized in that the ores are first transformed into oxides of the metals and are then reduced at temperatures so low that fine grained metal powder is obtained, the powder being separated from gangue and unreduced metal oxides in known ways, e.g. by flotation or wind-sifting. By reduction at 250 DEG C only copper oxide is reduced and can be separated from the remaining material. By reduction at 900 DEG -950 DEG C a mixture of iron and copper powders is produced. The mixture may be separated as such or after annealing at the same temperature for two hours in an inert atmosphere, copper can be separated from iron and other material by flotation in an acid liquid. The remaining iron powder can be dried and separated magnetically from unwanted material. Specification 321,685, [Class 82(i)], is referred to.
