642.717. Centrifugal compressors. GARRETT CORPORATION. Dec. 10, 1946, No. 36503. Convention date, Dec. 29, 1945. [Class 110(i)] [Also in Groups X, XXIX and XXXV] In a ventilating system for an enclosure, e.g. an aircraft cabin 10, (see Group X), a compressor 13 circulates air in a path 14 including the cabin, and another compressor 21 delivers air to the path at a rate in accordance with pressurization requirements in the cabin. The compressor 13 has its shaft 23 driven by a gas turbine 51 and the speed of this compressor is kept constant by an electric control system including a flow meter 63, (see Group XXXV). The compressor 21 is freely mounted on the shaft 23 and driven therefrom through a fluid coupling 24 at a speed determined by the pressure in a cabin pressure control chamber 39, (see Group XXIX). A throttle in the compressor 21 may be used in place of the coupling 24. A starter 87 and speed-limiting governor 88 are connected to the shaft 23.
