Abstract
641,987. Door - operating appliances. BLACKBURN AIRCRAFT, Ltd., and WOODWARD, S. C. Nov. 27, 1947, No. 31412. [Class 65(i)] The door 3 of the bomb bay of an aircraft is operated by mechanism which comprises an axially movable member, in the form of a fluid pressure jack 1, pivoted about a fixed point 2 and connected to the door through a pin 5 acting in a slot 7 to afford lost motion for actuating a latch 16. The arrangement is such that the axes of the slot and jack are substantially aligned when the. door is closed, while said axes lie substantially at right angles to each other when the door is open, thus rendering the lost motion connection inoperative and preventing relative movement between the door and the jack. In a modification the jack is connected to the door through a link which lies at an angle to the. axis of the jack when the door is closed and has a limited degree of swinging movement relative to the latter for actuating the latch, and when the door is open is substantially aligned with said axis to prevent relative movement between the door and jack. The jack may be replaced by an electric actuator or manually operated axially movable rod, and the ram may work through a link or links arranged for pivotal movement as well as axial displacement.
