Abstract

641,397. Trueing grinding-wheels. PORTER, C. B. A. and TOOLMASTERS, Ltd. May 3, 1948, No. 12146. [Class 60] The trueing-apparatus described in Specification 573,877, and comprising a pantograph mechanism carrying a follower co-operating with a template and a dressing - tool holder capable of rocking about an axis perpendicular to the template, has the tool mounted in the holder by adjustable means operable for displacing the tool both in the direction longitudinal of its shank and in a direction perpendicular to its shank and the rocking axis x-x of the holder, and is provided with a linear displacement indicator 33 having an actuating member 34 resting on the tip of the tool. The tool is mounted in an inclined slot in a block 16 which is adjustable along an L-shaped guide 14, 15, by means of a screw 32 acting through a lever 27 pivoted at 28. Adjustment of the tool in the direction of its shank is effected by a screw 19, while the tool may be angularly adjusted within its slot by a screw (not. shown) bearing on a flat 22. The tool is secured in the block by a screw 23 and the block is locked to its guide by a screw 24. The guide forms part of a bracket 12 integral with a shaft 10 which is journalled in ball-bearings 46, 47, 55 and rocked by a flexible steel belt 39. The outer race of the bearing 55 is a sliding fit in its housing and is urged towards the dressing tool by a ring of compression springs 56. The indicator 33 is carried on an arm 35 extending from a bracket adjustably secured by a dovetail 37 to one of the arms 11 of the pantograph. The bracket is locked by a screw 38. The tool is adjusted until rotation of the shaft 10 causes no variation in the indicator reading.
