641,365. Frequency changing. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA. Nov. 20, 1947, No. 30827. Convention date, Dec. 18, 1946. [Class 40 (v)] A frequency multiplying network comprises an input circuit responsive to an input signal, an output circuit tuned to an integral multiple of the input signal frequency and, as coupiing between the input and output circuits, a capacitor having a reactive ceramic ferroelectric dielectric, the reactance of which varies as a non-linear function of the voltage applied to it. A capacitor 9 comprising a member 17 of barium-strontium titanate oxide, of an extremely thin section (e.g. 1.5 mils.) and of a diameter of the order of 5 mils., having electrodes 19, 21 deposited or coated upon opposite sides thereof, is used to couple two tuned circuits 3, 11, a unidirectional bias voltage from a battery 25, adjustable by means of a potentiometer 27, being applied to the device so that the frequency of the output from the tuned circuit 11 is an even multiple of the frequency of the input to the tuned circuit 3, odd multiples being derived when the slider 29 is set to short-circuit a condenser 23. The percentages of barium and strontium in the member 17 considerably affect the operation of the device. Specification 641,373 is referred to.
