Abstract
640,362. Sighting device for guns. BOULTON PAUL AIRCRAFT Ltd., and NORTH, J. D. April 5, 1947, No. 9239. [Class 92 (ii)] [Also in Group XX] A sighting device for guns comprises a screen 1, means for viewing an optical or other image T of the target on or through the screen, a transverse mark or marks A, B, C, D, on or next to the screen, means for rotating the marks into parallelism with the direction of motion of the target, a mark G representing the direction in which the gun is pointing, and means for moving the mark in a direction parallel to AB and CD, and means for aligning the path of movement of G with that of the target image. The point G may be a spot of light. In use, after the lines have been brought parallel to the target's course from the initial stage shown in Fig. 1, the gun mounting and screen are moved so that the path of T passes through G, Fig. 3, and the gun then moved so that G and T coincide. The gun may be mounted to rotate in a plane parallel to the screen, and is pivoted on the mounting so that the point G, representing the direction of aim, can move across any desired diameter. The lines may be on the screen, in which case the screen rotates ,or they may be independently mounted.
