[Class 29] A refrigerator cabinet 35 is divided into an upper low temperature compartment 47 and a lower storage compartment 34 by a horizontal shelf-like partition including horizontally disposed and superimposed evaporator coils 12 and 46 of an absorption refrigerating machine of the continuous cycle inert gas type, means being provided to thermally separate the compartments and no storage space being left between the coils 12, 46. As shown in Fig. 7, a low temperature coil 12 and a higher temperature coil 46 are in contact with opposite faces of a metal box-like member containing insulant 45. Refrigerant and inert gas flow in series through the evaporators 12, 46, the inert gas being in counterflow to the refrigerant in the low temperature coil. The liquid refrigerant supply pipe 13 is cooled by the pipe 27 leading refrigerant between the evaporators 12, 46. The partition assembly is inserted as a unit through the rear wall 38 of the cabinet. In a modification, Fig 3, the coils 12, 46 have their passes disposed at right-angles and the coil 46 may be fitted with fins 29. The upper compartment 47 may have a closure hinged to the partition at 36. A diagram of the refrigerating apparatus, Fig. 1 (not shown), shows draining arrangements between the gas-heat exchanger and the absorber as described in Specification 537,327.
