Abstract
639,574. Ball-bearings; greasing. CRISTINA, G. July 1, 1947, No. 17335. [Class 12(i) and 12 (iii)] A device for feeding simultaneously all the balls into a bearing raceway has a movable head forming with a ball reservoir an annular feed bore through which the balls are ejected, against restraining means, when the head is engaged with the race and the device is moved axially thereto. The device may have an attachment for greasing the raceway to retain the balls in position. As shown, the ball reservoir 15 has one end slotted at 16 to retain the webs of a separator 17 a rim 17<SP>1</SP> of which is guided by sleeves 20, 20<SP>1</SP> slidable on the reservoir 15. The balls pass from the latter through holes 18 in the separator 17 and are guided by a conical surface 25 of a member 24 to a festooned edge 26 thereof where a resilient disc 23 retains them. When a race is engaged by the end of the sleeve 20 and the body of the device is moved axially thereto an extractor 19 forces the balls past the resilient disc 23 into the raceway. The embodiment shown includes a greasing device comprising a reservoir 1 on an extension 1<SP>1</SP> of which an axially slidable delivery head 2 is mounted. The bottom 3 of the head 2 has a circular row of holes 4 corresponding in number and position to that of the balls to be fitted. The race is engaged with the bottom 5<SP>1</SP> of an adjustable collar 5 and axial pressure moves the head 2 and discharges the grease. The grease feed is effected by a piston 11 whose resilient pins 13 engage the screwthreading of an eccentric shaft 12 fixed to the ball reservoir 15 whereby rotation of the latter relative to the grease reservoir axially moves the piston. A spring-loaded ball 15<SP>1</SP> locates the two reservoirs. In another embodiment of the ball feeding device operation is effected by depressing the knob of a spring-loaded shaft terminated by a tumbler-shaped feed member which ejects the balls, the resilient disc being replaced by a spring-loaded rigid member.
