Abstract

639,446. Cleansing casks. RYDER & CO. (MANCHESTER), Ltd., T., and FAWCETT, H. April 12, 1948, No. 10092. [Class 21] A cask washing machine comprises a. stationary cradle e which is tilted automatically after washing to discharge the cask, and a nozzle r which is raised or lowered to distribute cleaning fluids e.g. steam and water, inside the cask. The machine is driven from a gear wheel j on a shaft i, the wheel j, revolving the nozzle r through gearing u, u<SP>1</SP> t, and raising and lowering the nozzle by a cam surface 6 and lever 3. The shaft i carries two cams m, each operating a valve o through linkage z and collars u, one valve admitting steam, the other water. Removal of a cask permits a lever 2 to rise, sliding the collars v up their links and preventing the opening of the valves. The cradle e is tilted by lugs 9, carried by discs 8 on the shaft i, engaging spring-loaded rods 10 attached to arms h on the cradle pivot shafts f. The cradle arms may be swung inwardly to accommodate smaller barrels and may be linked for simultaneous movement as described in Specification 617,380. Several machines may operate from a common power shaft.
