[Classes 78 (iii) and 78 (iv)] A manure loader or like loadhandling machine comprises a fork 25 on a frame 22, 23 pivoted at 24 to a frame 18 pivoted in turn at 20 to a frame 11 supported vertically from an extension 9 of the draft links C of a tractor provided with means for raising and lowering the draft links. The frame 22, 23 is normally held against the frame 18 by latches 28 and the frame 18 is prevented from swinging forwardly relatively to the frame 11 so that the fork 25 may be driven into a pile of material by reversing the tractor. When the fork is withdrawn by forward movement of the tractor, the resistance to motion afforded by the material causes the frame 22 to tilt about the axis 20 to a position in which the fork 25 is suitably disposed to carry material which is retained on the fork by arms 27 : the frame 22 is retained in this position by catches 35 which operate automatically. The frame 11 comprises side bars 14 rigidly connected by crossbars 15 and struts 16, and mounted on a pintle 12 extending between the ends of tubes 9 forming extensions of the draft links C. The frame 11 is held vertical by stays 151 connected to a yoke 16<SP>1</SP> secured to the tractor and carries the frame 18 comprising side bars 19 joined by bars 20, 21, the former constituting the hinge between frames 11 and 18. Forward swinging movement of the frame 18 is prevented by engagement of the lower ends of the bars 19 with extensions 13 of the pintle 12. The fork 25 comprises tines secured to a crossbar rigid with side bars 22 but fitting loosely in holes in the side bars 19 to form a hinge. A crossbar 23 joining the side bars 22 is normally held behind a shoulder 31 on latches 28 which are pivoted at 29 to the frame 18 and normally held in locking position by springs 33 but may be released by pulling on a lanyard 34 to permit the fork 25 to swing about its hinge 24 and dump its load: the catches 28 are re-engaged when the fork is raised by pulling a rope 39. The catcvhes 35 comprise levers pivoted at 36 to the side bars 22 and adapted to abut on the pintle 13 when the frame 18 is tilted The catches are automatically disengaged by the relative movement of the fork and the frame 11 when the load is dumped as described above, and a strap 38 limits their downward movement. A spring 40 tends to hold the fork in its horizontal position. The fork 25 may be replaced by a scoop.
