Abstract

638,852. Skinning fish. ROWTON, H. S. July 20, 1948, No. 19375. [Class 28(ii)] In skinning fish fillets by pulling a fillet against a fixed knife 57, the fillet being temporarily held on a rotary drum (11) spring pressed by' impaling. needles, the needles 25 are now positively held into the fish until the skinning is completed. The needles 25 are mounted in a block 18 carried round with the drum 11 and are moved in or out through holes during drum rotation by means of a fixed cam 30 operating on a roller 28 of a bell crank 20. A spring 24 merely holds the roller 28 against the cam 30. The needles have square heads to fit into a groove in the block 18 in which they are clamped. When a fish fillet is pushed by hand into a slot 15 in the drum a cam (54a) operated presser 51 presses the leading end of the fillet on to the needles 25 which are at this time held projecting through the perforations without yielding back. The presser 51 is provided with an adjustable friction pad to prevent rebound. The fillet is then carried round against the skinning knife 57. The flesh passes down a slide 61: The skin is carried round on the needles until they are retracted, and the skin is cleared from the drum by a scraping roller 43 rotating in the same diection at a higher peripheral speed. The roller 43 is formed with alternate rings of teeth spaced by grooves to allow a fixed comb to clear them of skin.
