Abstract

637,922. Spindles for textile spinning and twisting machines. MARQUETTE METAL PRODUCTS CO. April 4, 1946, No. 10407. Convention date, April 18, 1945. [Class 120 (ii)] A spindle for a textile spinning or twisting machine has two arcuate brake shoes 100, Figs. 1 and 2, adapted to engage an internal brake surface of the spindle whorl 19 when a brake operator or pin 106 is moved towards two adjacent end faces 104 of the shoes 100, to press the shoes against a stationary pin 102 and outwardly against the constraining influence of a spring 109, in a groove 110 formed in the outer peripheral surfaces of the shoes. The pin 106 is movable by a horizontal pin 112 normally biased in non-braking position by a coil spring 115. The pin 112 may be operated by a channelshaped lever 118 formed with curved cam surfaces 116. A whorl and band retaining hook 34, formed of spring wire, is pivoted in the flange 38, which also supports the pins 102, 112. and lever 118. The flange 38 is made in two parts 38a, 38b, joined together by spot welding or brazing. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also an improved spindle and mounting, Fig. 1 (Cancelled), including a two-part spindle blade 16, the two parts being butt welded. A bobbin adapter 23 formed of aluminium, or suitable aluminium alloy, or magnesium is, preferably, shrink-fitted onto the upper part of the blade 16. The blade 16 is mounted in a bolster bearing 12 and footstep bearing 15. Bearing 12 is a roller bearing and bearing 16 a plain bearing having a polished and bored body 81, which is centred by a coil spring 96 and prevented from turning by a groove on its base associated with a tongue on a plug 86 brazed to the bolster case 10. The plug 86 has a sludge sump 89. The footstep bearing 15 and part of the blade 16 are immersed in oil introduced into the bolster case through a nipple L on the collar 38. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
