[Class 143] [Also in Group XXX] A vehicle for carrying weights for use in testing weighbridges has tracks on its floor along which weights may be rolled, a hoist for lifting the weights and a track along which the hoist can travel which slopes downwards towards the back of the vehicle. The lorry shown, which may itself form a load for testing a weighbridge, i s equipped with a track 10 supporting an electric hoist 14 and with a pair of tracks 16 along which cylindrical weights 18 may be rolled. In unloading, the weights 18 are supported in pairs by their handles 24 from a yoke 22 carried by the hoist 14: when the hoist is operated to raise the weights it runs rearwardly by gravity along the inclined track 10 until stopped in the position shown in broken lines in Fig. 3, either by a buffer 26 or by a chain 28. The hoist is then caused to lower the weights which rest against tracks 20 on the tailboard 12. To facilitate reloading the weights, the rear portion 30 of the floor is raised about pivots 32 by cams 34 on a shaft 36 turned by a handle 38. Scotches 40 for holding the weights may be secured by pegs passing through holes in the scotches and in the floor of the lorry. The hoist 14 may be driven from the dynamo of the lorry engine.
