[Classes 132 (i) and 132 (iii)] A pyrotechnic or detonating device comprises a tubular member 2 provided with a chamber 6 having a detached wall 4 and a fixed wall 3, a strip 8 being slidably mounted in a slit 41 in the fixed wall and extending from one end of the tubular member, a frictionally ignitable explosive medium 9 being provided on the portion of the strip within the chamber and a friction surface being located adjacent the explosive medium. This friction surface may be provided on a second strip 7. The explosive medium in addition may be coated on the detached wall at 11. A tube 1 of smaller diameter than tube 2 may be provided as a, holder and the strip 8 may extend through this tube. The complete device may be covered with paper or other ornamental covering. The explosive medium may be on the shorter strip 7 and the friction medium on the longer strip. A novelty 12 may be contained in the portion of cube 2 beyond the chamber, and is projected therefrom by the explosion caused by pulling the longer strip. The explosive may be silver fulminate.
