Abstract

637,011. Drawing board. FOULKES, E. M., (formerly FUCHS, E.), and SHANDON, E. R., (formerly SCHONDORFF, E.).' July 10, 1945, No. 17594. [Class 11] [Also in Groups XVI and XX] A drawing board comprising a sheet metal base, means resiliently attached to the base for clamping paper to the base and a straight edge having a part slidable in a guide formed integrally with the clamping means has the clamping means attached to the base by a strip of resilient metal passed sinuously through tongues formed on the base and a part of the clamping means respectively. A rectangular base 1 has one edge turned up as a flange 2 and has a 5-cross section clamping bar resiliently attached to it by a strip of spring steel 4 passing through tongues 6 and 5 on the base 1 and the cross piece 3c respectively, so that the curved part 3a normally bears on the base 1. The straight edge 7, preferably of celluloid or other transparent material, is mounted in a metal T-shaped member 8 which has a cross piece 9 of circular cross-section sliding in the curved part of the clamping bar 3a. The straight edge is provided with suitable graduations 10, 11, 12 and a scale 13 is arranged along the opposite edge of the base to the clamping bar. The device may be used in drawing, writing and sketching ; or for holding written or printed matter during reading or copying the straight edge acting as a guide for following the lines.
