Abstract
636,868. Gas turbine plant. JANES, R. May 25, 1948, No. 14172. [Class 110(iii)] An arrangement for extracting gas from the exhaust of a gas turbine has a portion of the exhaust duct defining wall formed with its leading edge spaced into the duct away from the adjacent part of the duct defining wall to form a gap leading to a collector chamber which increases in cross-sectional area from its inlet to its outlet so as to convert the velocity of the extracted gas into pressure. The exhaust passage 11 is formed between a conical fairing 15 and an outer wall consisting of a double-skinned structure 12 and a frustoconical sleeve 13. The upstream edge 13a of the sleeve 13 is spaced from the structure 12 by locating pins 33 to form an annular gap 13b leading to a collector chamber 18. The continuation wall 12a of the structure 12 diverges from the sleeve 13 so that the chamber 18 has a gradually increasing cross-sectional area. The downstream end of the wall 12a carries a ring 14 having a cylindrical extension 14a which cooperates with a spherical-surfaced ring 19 mounted on the end of the sleeve 13 to form a gas seal between the chamber 18 and passage 11 and to permit expansion of the sleeve. The outlets from the chamber 18 are controlled by means of butterfly valves operated by hydraulic rams. To ensure that the valves are fully closed, one end of each ram is connected to the valve and the other to a rocking lever arranged to load a compression spring by additional travel of the ram after the valve reaches its fully closed position.
