Abstract

635,899. Electric indicating systems. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Sept. 19, 1946, No. 28140. Convention date, Sept. 22, 1945. [Class 40 (i)] The transmitter in a telemetering system comprises a linearly movable transformer core carrying a stationary primary winding and a plurality of fixed secondary windings connected respectively in series with the coils of a D.C. type ratio-meter and individual rectifiers. As shown, Fig. 1, a magnetic core member 3, moved linearly by a pressure or other sensitive device 2, links the stationary transformer primary 4 successively with the secondary coils 10, 11, 12 during its movement. The secondaries 10, 11, 12 which are circumferentially spaced around the axis 1 so that their poles may overlap, Fig. 2 (not shown), are series connected to the respective coils 16, 17, 18 of a ratio-meter 21 and rectifiers 20, the ratio-coils surrounding a diametrally polarised armature 19 which rotates in accordance with the linear movements of the core 3. By shaping the polepieces of the coils 10, 11, 12 the law connecting the linear and rotary motions may be varied as desired. The number of secondary coils traversed by the linearly moving core 24, Fig. 4, may be increased and connected in multiple to the receiver coils as shown, so that the receiver pointer 22 rotates a plurality of revolutions for one sweep of the moving core 24, the revolutions of the pointer 22 being indicated by a pointer 22a geared thereto. The rectifiers may be arranged in any position in the series circuits in question. Full wave rectification may be employed, Fig. 5 (not shown), although half-wave as shown is more advantageous. In Fig. 6, two transmitter cores 53, 54, energized in phase by their series connected windings, are both movable linearly in parallel directions past the secondaries 55, the receiver in this case indicating the average or mean position of the cores. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes an embodiment, Fig. 5 (Cancelled) in which the transformer core comprises diametrally opposed pole pieces 35A at opposite ends of a short shaft embraced by the stationary primary coil 35. The secondary coils are connected through respective triode rectifiers 36 to the corresponding coils of one or more receivers 38, 39 in parallel. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
