Abstract

634,047. Flood-banks. ROWBOTHAM, F. W. March 18, 1948, No. 8092. Addition to 600,583. [Class 68 (ii)] The flood-bank or like unit of the parent Specification is modified in that it comprises a base 1 and a wall 2 extending upwardly from the front edge of the base, each lateral edge of the wall having a shoulder extending from the crown to the bottom, one shoulder facing forwardly, and the other, 6, rearwardly. The shoulders may be continued somewhat along the edges of the base and along the edges of a keel 4. The forwardly-facing shoulder is somewhat wider than the other and the shoulders may be at slightly different inclinations and at slightly different distances from the front, whereby the units may be set otherwise than in a straight line. Gaps between adjacent units are filled with mastic and other caulking material. At any point where the flood-wall changes direction sharply a special corner block may be provided comprising two relatively inclined but integral portions. To make up for any erosion &c. underneath the front of the keel an aperture 10, through which puddled clay &c. may be forced, is provided in the base and closed temporarily by a plug.
