633,159. Preventing yellow fog in photographic materials. GENERAL ANILINE & FILM CORPORATION. July 7, 1947, No. 17895. Convention date, Aug. 5, 1939. [Class 98 (ii)] Anti-fogging agents which prevent yellow fog, to be incorporated in photographic silver halide emulsions, surface or substratum layers of photographic material, or in a developing or other processing bath for photographic material are organic phosphonium, arsonium, and antimonium iodides. Compounds specified are methyl triethyl, tetraethyl, methyl triphenyl, ethyl triphenyl, allyl triphenyl, trimethyl phenyl, methyl diethyl phenyl, methyl tri-ptolyl, tetrabenzyl, triphenyl benzyl, ethyl phenyl tetramethylene, and ethyl phenyl pentamethylene phosphonium iodides; methenyltris-(triethyl phosphonium iodide); methylenebis-(triphenyl phosphonium iodide); methyl triphenyl, ethyl triphenyl, allyl triphenyl, tetraethyl, trimethyl phenyl, methyl diethyl phenyl, methyl tri-p-tolyl, methyl tri-(3- hydroxyphenyl), methyl tri-(3-nitrophenyl), methyl tri-(3-aminophenyl), allyl tri-diphenyl, methyl diphenyl a-naphthyl, iodomethyl triphenyl, methyl cyclohexyl diphenyl, tetraphenyl, tetrabenzyl, triphenyl benzyl, ethyl phenyl tetramethylene, dimethyl pentamethylene, and methyl phenyl o: o'-diphenylene arsonium iodides; trimethyl phenyl, methyl diethyl phenyl, tetramethyl, and tetraethyl antimonium iodides ; [(C 2 H 5 ) 4 PI] 2 .HgI 2 ; [(C 2 H 5 ) 4 PI] 3 .(BiI 3 ) 2 ; [(CH 3 ) 4 AsI].HgI 2 ; and [(CH 3 ) (C 2 H 5 ) 3 SbI].HgI 2 . Examples are given illustrating the use of certain of these compounds by incorporation in the emulsion, a surface coating therefor, and a developer.
