Abstract
632,865. Single-wheel mountings; friction dampers. BLACKSTONE & CO., Ltd., and HALLEWELL, G. May 20, 1947, No. 13575. [Classes 108 (ii) and 108 (iii)] An agricultural field machine is provided with a castor wheel having frictiondamper members arranged to transmit a proportion of the load of the machine on to the castor wheel and permitted some degree of relative universal movement to render the friction damper members selfadjusting as to alignment. In the arrangement shown, the rear weight of a side rake is taken by a castor wheel 5 which is carried by a pivot spindle 6 mounted in bearings 7, 7, in housings 8, 8, rigid with a frame member 1. A collar 9 pinned to the spindle 6 engages the lower face of a friction disc 10, the upper face of which engages a casting 11 abutting a bracket 12 rigid with the machine frame. Rotational movement of the casting 11 about the spindle 6 is prevented by pins 13, 13 on the bracket 12 which engage slots 14, 14 in the casting 11, small universal angular movements of the casting relative to the axis of the spindle being permitted to enable the friction disc to seat properly on the collar and casting. Damping action of the disc 10 may be supplemented by adjustment of a spring 20 carried on a stud 18. A flange 16 and seal 17 protect the disc 10 from moisture.
