Abstract
An azo dyestuff of the formula <FORM:0632595/IV (c)/1> or <FORM:0632595/IV (c)/2> , where R is a hydrocarbon radical, A, B and X are benzene, indazole, benzimidazole or benztriazole nuclei free from solubilizing groups, one at least being heterocyclic, or X may be a different aromatic nucleus, e.g. anthraquinone, is prepared on the fibre by diazotizing a compound of the formula X-NH2 and coupling it with a compound of the formula <FORM:0632595/IV (c)/3> or <FORM:0632595/IV (c)/4> The heterocyclic nuclei may be distributed as follows in the dyestuff molecule: (1) none in the coupling component and one in the diazo compound; (2) one or two in the coupling component and none in the diazo compound; (3) one or two in the coupling component and one in the diazo compound. The acylacetylamino group can be ortho or para to the azo linkage of the coupling component. When there is only one heterocyclic nucleus in the coupling component, the acylacetylamino group can be on this nucleus or on the one attached to it by the azo linkage. The dyestuffs may be after-treated to yield metal derivatives (e.g. copper), especially if there is a heterocyclic nuclear nitrogen ortho to the azo linkage and an alkoxy group ortho to the same linkage. The dyestuffs may be fixed on the fibre by dyeing, foularding or printing, directly or via the Schiff's base. The coupling components may be obtained from amino-azo compounds of the formula NH2-A-N=N-B or NH2-A-N=N-B-NH2 by acylacetylation, e.g. with an acylacetic ester, the amines compounds being prepared by reduction of nitro compounds or hydrolysis of acylamino compounds. Examples are given of the preparation of typical dyestuffs according to the invention, and a list is included of suitable diazo and coupling components. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the preparation of the dyestuffs in substance, and the use of a tetrazotised diamine is mentioned. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
