[Class 20(ii)] Apparatus for use in the building of structures of concrete or like material, comprises a number of uprights and mould plates provided with 'co-operating elements whereby individual superposed mould plates may be removed, the co-operating elements of the uprights and of the mould plates having inter-engaging faces which are inclined downwardly and inwardly so that the weight of the mould plates retains them in their moulding positions against outward movement away from the uprights. In constructing a chimney structure, angle iron uprights 1, Figs. 1, 2, having welded feet 3 adapted to fit into shoes 4 positioned on a prepared base 2, are erected as shown with intermediate uprights 8 similarly positioned, the upper extremities of these uprights being supported and positioned relatively by a head frame 13. A core 7 for producing a transverse cavity between back to back fireplaces or a fireplace and an outer wall, is positioned by the uprights 8, and may be lifted vertically by a handle 56 as the courses progress. The uprights 8 and the core 7 may have co-operating lugs and hooks to support the core. Permanent chimney linings 63 are supported by flue box cores 61 positioned on telescopic support plates laid flat across the open topped fireplace cores 60, the fireplace and flue box cores being removable. Mould plates 23, 24, Figs. 1, 5, are used for the lowermost course only and mutually support one another by a system of co-operating slots and cut away portions. Mould plates 22, Fig. 4, are used for all other courses and are supported and positioned by the lugs 20, 21 &c. on the uprights 1. The process of construction is as follows.-The first concrete course is run in to the top of the plates 23, 24, Figs. 1, 5, or to the level of the fireplace openings, and a damp course laid (not shown). A course of mould plates 22 is then positioned on the lugs of the uprights, cores 60, 61, and support plates are put into place and concrete run in up to the tops of plates 22 and allowed to set. Core 7 is then raised clear of the concrete and allowed to rest on the expanded edges of the formed cavity. Further sets of plates are fitted and the pouring continued until the top of core 61 is reached, when the chimney linings 63 are positioned and the construction continued. After the lower courses are set the telescopic support plates and the cores 60, 61, are removed. A second storey may be constructed in a similar manner using extensions on uprights 1, 8, connected by intermediate angle members employing lugs and sockets for attachment. According to the Provisional Specification the top of the core 7 may project beyond the side plates to form a support bearing for the core, and openings may be cut in the top of the core at either end to enable the core to be removed by hooks or other means. A light sheet of steel may be placed at the junction of fireplace and fluecores to keep concrete away from the joints. Specification 634,184 is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
