Abstract
632,337. Coin-freed turnstiles. BROOKES, T., and ILLINGWORTH, E. W. July 11, 1947, No. 18450. [Class 27] Turnstile shaft A<SP>1</SP> is normally locked by engagement of the end d of a locking bolt C in one of a series of notches a in a disc A secured to the shaft. A coin inserted to free the turnstile comes to rest at c<SP>3</SP> between the end of a second bolt B, overlying the locking bolt C, and a projecting portion c<SP>1</SP> at the rear of the locking bolt. The bolt B has a T-head b<SP>1</SP> whose ends engage between pins a<SP>3</SP> on the disc A so that initial movement of the shaft A<SP>1</SP> displaces the bolt B which, through the coin c<SP>3</SP>, withdraws the locking bolt C to permit continued movement of the shaft. The bolts are returned by springs b, d<SP>1</SP> at the next locking position of the shaft, the coin meanwhile having been brought over a slot in the base plate and discharged. Pawl and ratchet mechanism d<SP>3</SP>, A<SP>2</SP> prevents reverse rotation of the shaft A<SP>1</SP>. In a modified construction, free reverse rotation for exit purposes is permitted by the provision of a one-way clutch between the shaft and the disc A.
