Abstract
632,308. Inductive control circuits for X-ray tubes. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. Nov. 19, 1946, No. 34310. Convention date, May 21, 1943. Drawings to Specification. [Class 38 (iv)] To obtain a close approximation to constant voltage of optimum value during the short exposure time of an X-ray tube subject to a pulsating or impulse excitation an iron-cored choking coil is connected in series with the tube and its self-induction is so varied as to minimize any deviation of the tube voltage from the optimum value. When the tube is excited by rectified A.C. a synchronously-driven commutator may reverse a constant current in a saturating winding on the choke, so that the choke impedance is changed from a minimum value to a maximum value and back again. When a condenser discharge excitation is used a saturating winding on the choke may be connected in series with an auxiliary condenser across the choke terminals. The choking coil may have an air-gap which is varied to obtain the required result.
