Abstract

727,640. Pulse generating circuits. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Dec. 21, 1953 [Dec. 24, 1952], No. 35494/53. Class 40(6). A high voltage pulse generator for energizing a magnetron in which an artificial line is charged from a source and discharged via a pulse transformer to which the magnetron is connected, comprises a series combination of a capacitor and a voltage-dependent resistor connected in parallel with a winding of the transformer, thus limiting the steepness of the flank of the energizing pulses. The Figure shows a circuit in which the artificial line 2 is charged from a D.C. source 1 and periodically discharged through the primary of pulse transformer 7 via cable 6 when gas-discharge tube 5 is fired. The voltage produced across the secondary of transformer 7 (Fig. 2 (a), not shown), is applied to energize magnetron 8 across which a series circuit comprising capacitor 9 and voltage-dependent resistor 10 is connected. The resistor 10 has a resistance value which decreases with an increase of voltage across it so that the build-up of voltage across the magnetron increases less rapidly than would otherwise be the case (Fig. 2 (c), not shown), and the steepness of the leading edge of the excitation pulse may thus be adjusted by proportioning of the network 9, 10. In a modification, an inductor is connected in series with the network 9, 10, thus reducing the energy loss in resistor 10. Specification 722,694 is referred to.
