Abstract

631,641. Injection-moulding machines. LESTER ENGINEERING CO. Oct. 20, 1947, No. 28047. Convention date, Dec. 13, 1943. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group XXIII] The die-blocks 4, 5 of a pressure casting machine are so arranged that slight relative movement causes a variation in the pressure applied to the material in the die-cavity, e.g. by actuating an electric switch. Mounted on a stationary die 4 is an adjustable device 14 having a lever 29, Fig. 3, pulled by a spring 31 so that its short arm engages the long arm of a lever 25 of which the short arm engages a slide 23 which engages the movable mould part 5 when the mould is closed. The lever 29 is so connected to a micro switch 15 that when the mould is closed the switch is open and the valves 59 and 60, Fig. 4, are in the position shown so that the fluid pressure supplied by the pump 43 to the cylinder 11 which actuates the injection plunger 12 is kept at a value determined by a pre-set relief valve 53. If however the pressure in the mould causes its parts to begin to separate, the switch 15 is closed causing a solenoid 41 to move the valve 59 to the right which causes the valve 60 to move to the left and connect the pump to exhaust 54 thus stopping injection. If the mould-closing means 7, 8, Fig. 1, should move the parts 4, 5 into close contact again, the switch 15 will open and injection pressure be again applied.
