630,842. Gas turbine plant. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and MILLINGEN, R. D. VAN. Dec. 31, 1947, No. 32688/48. Divided out of 630,839. [Classes 110(i) and 110(iii)] A turbine-compressor assembly driven in part by the waste gases of a process plant, such as described in Specification 630,839, comprises a three stage compressor and a two stage turbine. The high-pressure turbine drives an intermediate compressor stage on one shaft and the low-pressure turbine drives a high-pressure and a low-pressure stage on another shaft. Air is tapped from the delivery of the intermediate compressor stage to supplement the waste gases of the process in driving the turbine and only the air required for the process passes to the high-pressure compressor stage. The turbine rotor 14 and the intermediate compressor rotor 6 are overhung on a shaft 15 supported on bearings 23, 24. The turbine rotor 13 and high-pressure compressor rotor 10 are overhung on tubular shafts 11, 12, which are splined to the low-pressure compressor rotor 1. The assembly is held together by an axial bolt 3 and supported on bearings 18 and 22. The turbine exhaust passes through a diffuser 36 divided by an annular partition 36c. The inlet to the low-pressure compressor rotor 1 is divided by two curved annular partitions 2a. The inner wall 32 of the working-fluid passage between the turbine stages is provided by a closed sheet-metal structure with a reinforcing internal cone piece 35.
