Abstract

629,997. Switches held set and freed mechanically; press-button retractive switches. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES. Ltd., HENDERSON, H. S., and BLACKWOOD, T. S. Oct. 10, 1947, No. 27266. [Class 38(v)] The operating cam member of a switching key, such as is used in the control panels of railway signalling and like systems. is made of transparent material so that light from an indicator lamp can be transmitted from the rear to the front of the switch. The switch of'Fig. 2 comprises a cylindrical housing 1 in a cut-away portion or portions 2 in which are accommodated a spring set or sets 3, which are operated by cams 9 on a transparent member 8 keyed at 13 to a rotatable transparent knob 14. Light from lamp 6 clipped to the housing 1 is transmitted through the members 8, 14, the ends of which have polished. and ground surfaces, respectively. Stop and click mechanisms may be provided to limit the rotation of, and locate, the knob 14. A ring nut 20 co-operating with a shoulder 19 on the housing 15 securer the switch to a panel. In the construction of Fig. 4, a transparent one-piece plunger- 52 has a shoulder 56 operating the contact spring 57 and is retracted by a spring 58, .the housing 51 being secured by a bayonet fastening 64 to a tube 63 on the panel to permit easy removal of the switch. There : may be more than one spring set. In both constructions the transparent members may be coloured and there may be several lamps provided .with colour filters.
