Abstract
629,570. Microscopes. COOKE, TROUGHTON, & SIMMS, Ltd., and TAYLOR, E. W. Aug. 7, 1947, No. 21499. [Class 97 (i)] For fine adjustment a slide controlling the movement of an optical system, or part thereof, is resiliently urged in one direction and may be moved in the opposite direction by a flexible inextensible connection maintained in tension and operated by an operating head situated remotely from the slide. As shown, the microscope nose-piece 13 bearing objectives 14, 15 is on a slide 54 moved relative to the body 12, stud 53 on a lever 48 rotatable about transverse bearings 47, Fig. 2, and against which the slide is held by a spring 55. The lever 48 is rotated by a flexible inextensible tape 45 passing over a roller 46 and connected to a similar tape 36 attached to a cylindrical bore 35 integral with a sector 33 engaging a worm 31 rotatable by knobs 21. The tape is maintained in tension by a plunger 58, Fig. 1, spring-urged against the lever 48, rotation of the latter to move the objectives being effected through the worm and sector 31, 33. Coarse adjustment is effected by moving the stage 16. Specifications 467,926 and 525,970 are referred to.
