Abstract
1,147,455. Microscopes. W. WATSON & SONS Ltd. June 30, 1966 [Aug. 4, 1965], No.33325/65. Heading G2J. [Also in Division F1] A microscope, Fig.2, includes two objective lens assemblies 11, 12 of differing magnification, mounted on a rotatable mount 30, remote-controloperated rotating means to move the mount to position either assembly in the optical path and means for locking the assembly in the path. As shown, the rotating means comprises a circular locking plate 42, mounted on an arm 31 on mount 30, and carrying a crank plate 44, having pallets 54, 53, which when plate 44 is rotated disengage a roller (48, Fig. 5 not shown) in a catch-bar 40 from a notch (50) in plate 42 which then rotates together with mount 30 until the roller engages a notch 49 in plate 42, locking the high magnification objective 12 in position. The remote control Fig.1 (not shown) comprises a high-pressure air supply (1), adjustable pressure regulator (2), foot operated switch (3) selectively connected via a vent (5) to atmosphere or by a small bore pipe (4) to an operating cylinder (8) via a needle valve (7), the piston 29 of the cylinder being linked by a connecting bar 9 to the lens charge and lock mechanism. The cylinder (8, Fig. 3 not shown) comprises a cylindrical bore in a body (18), input port (19) needle valve (7), and spring (28) biased plunger (27) connected to a shaft (29) and a bellows (26) within the bore. Instead of pneumatic operation, fluid or electro-mechanical operation may be used.
