[Class 70] [Also in Groups XI and XXIX] A pressure and heating element particularly for vulcanizing valves and like fittings into tyre tubes and the like, and for the repair of punctures close to such valves, has one wall formed externally as a pressure surface for the work to be vulcanized, said wall being heated by a flat electric resistance, and is provided with a passageway through the pressure surface wall and the casing of the element to enable the pressure surface to act around a valve stem or the like, the passageway being substantially surrounded by an electric resistance. A hollow metal casing 10, made in two parts 10a, 10b, is firmly secured to an arched bracket 11 having four spaced legs, two of them being 12, 13, the upper part of the bracket 11 being hollow underneath, and the bracket 11 being adapted to be secured at its top to the lower end of a pressure plunger forming part of the usual vulcanizing machine. The casing 10, which is heated by an electric resistance formed in two sections 24a and 24b contained in a housing 25 in the casing, has a central passageway 22 and underneath has a shallow concave zone 23 to provide for the graduated thickening of a tyre tube wall round the valve. This concave zone may, if desired, be formed in an intermediate plate formed separately from but secured to the pressure surface of the pressure and heating element. When the device is in use the valve stem of the tyre is passed through the passageway 22 as shown at 30 or 30a, the upper part 10b of the casing 10 being formed with grooves 32 to enable the device to take the type of stem shown by 30a. In a modification (Figs. 4, 5 not shown) the pressure and heating element is mounted by a tubular bracket member whose bore forms an extension of the passageway 22. The Specification (Fig. 6, not shown) describes an adapter for use with small valve seatings, comprising a metal annulus having a central hole whose upper surface is curved to fit within the concave zone 23 while its underneath is formed with a smaller concave zone to conform to the smaller valve seating. The Specification also describes a modification (Fig. 7, not shown) whereby the aperture in casing 10 is a notch extending into the side of the casing thus enabling the valve stem to be passed into position in a sideways direction, the lower surface of the casing being flat and an annular intermediate plate having a concave undersurface being placed over the valve stem before the stem is inserted into the notch.
