628,685. Thermally-actuated valves. MAIN WATER HEATERS, Ltd., and GREGORY, A. R. Aug. 18, 1947, No. 22930. [Class 135] A thermally-actuated, spring-loaded ball valve for a gas water-heater has an operating- rod 12, Figs. 1, 3, of, e.g., material known under the Registered Trade Mark " Invar " and enclosed in a brass tube 10 closed at one end by a plug 11 which engages the rounded end of the rod 12 and secured at its other end to a valve casing, having a gas inlet 20 and an outlet 22. The lower end of the rod 12 passes through a guide slot 25 and is adjustable laterally by a set-screw 24 to regulate the movement of the ball relative to its seat. The adjustment is limited so that the centre line of the rod never passes through the centre of the ball. A permanent flow of gas from the inlet to the outlet is secured through an adjustable bleed-hole 27.
