628,364. Hand appliances for rug-making. EASTERBROOK, C. M. Aug. 27, 1947, No. 23701. [Class 142 (iv)] A frame for rug-making by hand consists of a pair of side members 1 and a number of bars 2 spaced apart between them, the bars being grooved along their top and bottom surfaces 3. End bars 4, 5 are similarly grooved and are pivoted to the side members which have notches 8 in alignment with the grooves. In a modified form, the end bars are fixed to the side members and are cylindrical or radiused. In operation the frame is stitched by the bars to rug backing material (not shown) with pile-forming yarn ; a knife is run along each groove except the last ; the frame is turned over onto a further area of backing material while the end bar is held in position by its row of stitches, and the process repeated.
