Abstract

627,623. Frequency measuring. HASS, Z. K., and COOP, E. Jan. 27, 1947, No.2466. [Class 37] [Also in Group XL (c)] In a circuit for producing pulses of constant width, at a repetition frequency which is rationally related to that of a controlling wave, a short pulse having the desired frequency relation to the controlling wave is derived from the wave in a device 1, and simultaneously applied to a delay line or equivalent mechanical device 6, having its remote end " shorted," and to a flip-flop 3. The pulse triggers the flip-flop into its unstable state in which it remains until an inverted reflection of the original pulse triggers it back into its stable state. Fig. 3 shows a cathode coupled pair of valves forming the flip-flop, the output of which is taken off through a slicing valve V3. As the mean anode current of V3 will be proportional to the pulse repetition frequency and hence the controlling wave frequency, a meter M in the anode circuit gives a measure of the latter frequency.
