Abstract

644,633. Pulse generating circuits. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Feb. 4, 1947, No. 3358. [Class 40 (vi)] A circuit for producing pulses of constant width comprises a cross-coupled pair of valves 1 and 2 which act as a multivibrator, or a flipflop, according to their individual biasses, the cathode coupling including a delay line 6, which determines the pulse width. In operation, an input pulse (or a random disturbance) reduces the cathode current of valve 1 and hence the bias on blocked valve 2 which conducts until the pulse has been reflected at the open remote end of the line and has returned to the input, where it causes conductivity, to be transferred from valve 2 to valve 1. The circuit then remains in this state until another input pulse reduces the anode current of valve 1, or until the capacitor 13 forming the other coupling has discharged sufficiently to allow valve 2 to conduct, if the D.C. bias applied to the valve is low enough, this being the case when the circuit acts as a multivibrator. Capacitor 13 may be replaced by a direct coupling. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the delay line has its remote end shorted, and is connected between earth and the cathodes of the valves which are connected together. Specification 578,690 is referred to.
