[Class 40 (iv)] [Also in Groups XVIII, XXXVIII and XL (b)] In an arrangement for testing watches or other oscillating mechanical or electrical systems, a cathode beam scans the screen at a rate related to the correct speed of the watch to produce a substantially rectangular raster and is modulated by each tick or other periodic impulse. As a result, when the watch is going regularly at the correct speed, a horizontal line of dots is produced on the screen. If the speed is too high or too low, a sloping line is produced, or if it is irregular the line is not straight.
