Abstract

793,698. Cathode-ray oscilloscopes. COLE, Ltd., E. K., and REEVES, R. J. D. Oct. 31, 1955 [Oct. 30, 1954], No. 31411/54. Class 40 (7). In a C.R.O. a timebase synchronized with the waveform A, Fig. 2, to be displayed is applied to the X deflection members and a sinusoidal voltage a of higher frequency from a freerunning oscillator 3, Fig. 1, is applied to the Y deflection members and to a coincidence circuit 4 together with the waveform A to give a pulse when the amplitudes of A and a are coincident which is applied to intensity modulate the beam of the C.R.T. 2 so that the waveform A is displayed as a succession of luminous dots C whose timing relative to the X timebase varies during successive sweeps thereof to give an apparently continuous luminous trace when a long persistence screen is employed. Additional coincidence circuits, e.g. 5, may be provided to display other waveforms, e.g. B, and the vertical separation of the displayed waveforms is controlled by adjusting the D.C. bias B1, B2 on the coincidence circuits. One of the displayed traces may comprise an adjustable cursor line. A suitable coincidence circuit and pulse generator is illustrated in Fig. 4 (not shown). Specification 639,233 is referred to.
