627,409. Variable contact resistances. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. Jan. 27, 1947, No. 2455. Convention date, Jan. 29, 1944. [Class 37] A variable resistor comprising a cup-shaped casing 1 closed by a lid 11 having on its inner surface a layer of resistance material 13 of arcuate form over which a contact 9 mounted within the casing 1 is movable is characterised in that the resistance layer 13 extends on to the rim of the casing 1. As shown, the rim of the casing 1 is formed with a shoulder on which the lid 11 rests and the resistance layer 13 extends up to the edge of the lid. The invention is particularly applicable in the construction of midget resistors having a diameter of not more than 20 mms.
