Abstract
626,431. Glass tubing. CASSELLE, L. C. Aug. 26, 1947, No. 23577. [Class 56] Flattened glass tubing is made from round tubing by placing the latter over a core comprising a flat bar with rounded edges, heating it and moving it to and fro between rollers whilst it is still on the core, the axis of the tubing being parallel to that of the rollers. In the form shown the tube 1 and core 2 are supported in saddle members 10 forming part of a carriage 11 reciprocated horizontally by a lever and link mechanism 31. Approximate positioning of the rollers 3 is effected by a screw and nut mechanism 20, 22, and final positioning by a linkage 24, 26 operated by a Bowden wire mechanism 29 carried on the lever 31. To prevent rotation of the core during its passage with the tubing between the rollers handle 2a of the core is provided with a plate 34 having two flat sides 35 one of which is engaged by the free end of a lever 36 when the latter is rotated clockwise by a cam 37 during the forward travel of the carriage, the lever being freed by a stop 38 on the return movement of the carriage.
